Extra support
Following a full equalities assessment in September 2005, we have developed a strategy to help vulnerable people.
The strategy aims to make sure that Nottingham HomeLink is open to all sections of the community. If anyone is having difficulty using the system, support and advice will be available according to their individual circumstances.
In December 2005, the inclusion strategy, Nottingham HomeLink: Ensuring Equal Access for All, was sent out for consultation to almost 90 housing advice and support organisations in Nottingham City. The strategy and the support it proposes has been widely welcomed. All the comments have been considered and incorporated into the strategy.
Much of this support will be provided by two dedicated HomeLink Support Officers. They will work alongside existing agencies in identifying and providing support to those who need it.
Homelink Support Officers
These officers play a vital role in helping everyone get to place their bid for a property of their choice. You can contact them on 0115 915 7147. They are there to help you and:
- Hold weekly surgeries and drop in sessions at all the Area Housing Offices
- Meet you at your home to discuss your individual support needs
- Show you how to place bids
- Provide advice regarding the availability of properties across the city
- Send a copy of the weekly advertisement to those who are housebound.
- Provide one to one support to the most vulnerable of applicants
- Place bids for vulnerable applicants
If you have indicated you need help to bid for properties, or if a support needs assessment has highlighted this, you will be contacted by a HomeLink Support Officer. The support officer will either contact you by phone or arrange a home visit to explain the bidding process and offer further support.
The HomeLink Support Officer may link you up with existing support agencies and networks or will support you throughout the bidding process until you have successfully bid for a property.
If you are unable to bid for yourself and do not have any support, then the HomeLink Support Officer will place bids for you. .
They also:
- Arrange and deliver training sessions to other support providers
- Send a copy of the weekly advertisement to other support providers
- Arrange yearly events with support providers and voluntary agencies
- Promote HomeLink at a variety of events held across the City through out the year
- Work closely with support agencies and community groups across Nottingham. A yearly outreach programme makes sure these agencies and groups are fully up to date with the HomeLInk processes.
