Independent living

A view of one of our sheltered housing complexes

Are you over 55? Is your home too big for you? Why not find out if you are eligible for sheltered housing?

We have sheltered housing properties across the city. You can apply from the age of 55 if you are getting Disability Living Allowance but preference will be given to anyone over 60. We also welcome applications from people who live outside the Nottingham City boundary.

What is independent living

There are more than 60 sheltered schemes across the city, offering one and two bedroomed flats and bungalows.

Most schemes have around 30 to 40 homes. There are also flats available in some high rise blocks with fantastic views across the city.

Sheltered housing complexes benefit from the support of a Scheme Manager and a common room. Scheme Managers work with residents to put on weekly events, which can include bingo, dances, sing-a-longs and day trips. If you are a keen gardener, you don't have to lose your green fingers. Most complexes have communal gardens, which are lovingly kept by the residents.

There's lots do do, but it's up to you! You can take part as much or as little as you want to.

Your chance to live independently

With an independent living flat or bungalow, you have your own front door and can live as independently as you like. But if you chose to, you can become a part of the many great and supportive communities that can be found in sheltered schemes across Nottingham.

All sheltered housing properties on Nottingham HomeLink have the 24-hour alarm system run by Nottingham on Call. This runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, at the pull of a cord or push of a button. You may never need it, but it is offers you and your family peace of mind.

How much does it cost?

Less than you might think! You could get a home in an independent living property from around 65 a week. When you're ready to move we can help you with all the paperwork, arrange your gas and electricity suppliers and see if you might qualify for any benefits.
