You can find properties on our internet site

Once you have registered with us and have your unique registration number, you will want to search for and choose a home to live in.

How to search for a property

Every Friday at 12noon we put newly available homes for rent on this website. You can bid for any of these properties, as long as they are in your band.

You can see all these properties until the following Wednesday at 11.59pm, when we close the bidding and contact successful bidders. We also contact you if you are unsuccesful and invite you to try again next week.

If you try to look for a new home on Thursday, you will not find anything listed on this website. That's because we are loading the next week's properties, ready for publication on Friday.

There are several ways to see what homes are available for rent:

  • Use the 'Property search' section of this website. If you've not got website access at home you can use internet connected computers in most libraries in the city

(all external websites)

  • Read our weekly advert in the 'Find a Property' section of Monday's Nottingham Post. The advertisements use symbols and photographs to make it easier to make your choice
  • Visit any Nottingham City Homes housing office or the Housing Services Centre at 14 Hounds Gate in the city centre - you can read the latest weekly poster, and ask us for any help

We also send our weekly advertisement to support agencies and community groups which are part of our outreach programme. Vulnerable customers who may need extra help from our HomeLink Support Officers are sent a copy of the advertisement, if they want. Need our help? Find out more.

How long will I have to wait?

Although we manage around 40,000 properties across the city, only about a hundred or so are available at any one time.

For some idea about how long you may have to wait before you get a property, look at our waiting times guides.

The figures show how how long other people have had to wait for a property. You may have longer to wait if you need family accommodation, because there is a high demand for this type of property. There is less demand for other types - for example one bedroom flats - which often become available more quickly.

Remember:

  • Only bid for properties that closely match your needs. You may be wasting bids if you do not look closely at the information given in each property advertisement
  • You can make up to three bids each week
  • Use the 'location' button on each property you view, to make sure it's in an area you want to live. You can also read our Local Area Guides to find out more about the community and local facilities
  • DON'T PANIC! It's not a 'first come first served' system. You have until Wednesday at 11.59pm to bid, and every bid is considered equally
  • You don't have to bid for homes every week! It makes no difference to your priority or how quickly you might find a new home.
  • Next stage: Bid
