Once you have registered with us and have your unique registration number, you will want to search for and choose a home to live in.
How to search for a property
Every Friday at 12noon we put newly available homes for rent on this website. You can bid for any of these properties, as long as they are in your band.
You can see all these properties until the following Wednesday at 11.59pm, when we close the bidding and contact successful bidders. We also contact you if you are unsuccesful and invite you to try again next week.
If you try to look for a new home on Thursday, you will not find anything listed on this website. That's because we are loading the next week's properties, ready for publication on Friday.
There are several ways to see what homes are available for rent:
We also send our property sheets to support agencies and community groups which are part of our outreach programme. Vulnerable customers who may need extra help from our HomeLink Support Officers are sent property sheets, if they want. Need our help? Find out more.
How long will I have to wait?
Although we manage around 40,000 properties across the city, only about a hundred or so are available at any one time.
For some idea about how long you may have to wait before you get a property, look at our waiting times guides.
The figures show how how long other people have had to wait for a property. You may have longer to wait if you need family accommodation, because there is a high demand for this type of property. There is less demand for other types - for example one bedroom flats - which often become available more quickly.
Other ways to find a home
HomeLink isn't the only way to find a home. Try our housing options page to see about HomeSwapper and other ways to find a new home locally - you could swap your existing home for another anywhere in the country!
